Environmental Focus

City Beach Primary School proudly has a strong environmental focus.

The cornerstone of the school's strong Ecology programme is the Bush Garden project.

Commenced as a parent initiative in 1989, the Bush Garden is an integral part of the school's Ecology and Environmental Education programme.

Environmental Awards

The school has achieved the following;

  • John Tonkin Greening Western Australia Award in 1990 and 1995
  • Western Australian Landcare Award in 1995
  • Re-cycling and Waste Reduction Award for Schools in 1996
  • Outstanding achievement as a finalist in the Young Australian of the Year Awards for 1997
  • Finalist in the State Landcare Awards in 1997
  • Certificate of Achievement - Keep Australia Beautiful (Earth Schools Award) 1997
  • Certificate of Participation - Recycling & Waste Reduction Award 1997
  • Certificate for being a Water Wise School - 2002

Year 1 - Butterflies
Study of the life cycle of the Australian Admiral Butterfly (Vanessa Itea). The students raise and release these butterflies into our bush garden.

Year 2 - Mini Beasts
Study of locally found creatures

Year 3 - Frogs
Study of the life cycle of our local Motorbike Frog
(Litorea Moorei) and maintenance of our frog pond.
(Information on raising tadpoles)

Year 4 - Birds
Study of our local birds.

Year 5 - Recycling

Year 6 - Bush Press and Wormery
Publication of school magazine featuring environmental issues. Recycling of canteen and lunchtime food scraps.

Year 7 - Tree Raising and Dune Revegetation
Growing plants in the plant nursery from seeds collected from local trees.
